Running Money: Hedge Fund Honchos, Monster Markets and My Hunt for the Big Score
Andy Kessler
Rating: 4.0/5 Stars
Rank: 5764
Exceptionally good and maybe even important. (Omaha, NE USA) October 6, 2004 - 5.0/5 stars
Kessler's theory of intellectual property/trade deficit/margin surplus
really gets one to think. I'd be interested in what others (especially
economists and academics) think about this theory.
Kessler's
dead right about one thing: America leads the world in high margin IP
businesses like software, pharma, biotech, chips and entertainment.
The book is similar in style to "Moneyball," "The New, New Thing"
and "Liar's Poker" by Michael Lewis but I think more lasting in
significance.
"Moneyball" is in a class by itself on many different levels
and I don't think "Running Money" will outsell it.
As a Level
3 Communications, Inc. shareholder I, however, must strongly disagree with
his "theory" of the target price-name.
Kessler even proves
his own theory. His first book "Wall Street Meat" isn't nearly as good as
"Running Money." I guess the intellectual property of an experienced
editor added value.
